Actress Soundarya's death in a plane crash at Jakkur near Bangalore has left the Bharatiya Janata Party office in New Delhi stunned.

"We were extremely aggrieved by the accidental death of southern filmstar Soundarya while going for campaigning. The party, the film industry and the nation have lost a worthy daughter whose demise will be mourned by all," said BJP senior vice-president Bal Apte.

Law Minister and election in-charge for Karnataka, Arun Jaitley, and Karnataka party unit chief Ananth Kumar are at the spot.

Jaitley said Soundarya's death has robbed the party of a charismatic campaigner.

Saundarya's brother, Amarnath, a BJP activist, also died in the crash.
