The Bharatiya Janata Party and its National Democratic Alliance allies are likely to fall short of majority, securing between 230 and 265 seats in the coming Lok Sabha election, according to a survey.

The Congress and its partners may bag 170 to 200 seats, says the survey, conducted for newsmagazine The Week.

Others, comprising parties like the Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Communist Party of India-Marxist, will get 95 to 110 seats, says the survey, conducted by market research agency TNS among 17,513 voters across 143 constituency between March 25 and April 1.

This is the first survey that predicts that the NDA would fail to reach the simple majority mark.
