Hours before the full Election Commission team's arrival, militants bombed the Srinagar Municipal Corporation headquarters in Karan Nagar locality on Thursday.

Two SMC employees received minor injuries when an improvised explosive device exploded in the building's bathroom, police said.

The SMC is involved in preparing photo-identity cards and revising electoral rolls in the Srinagar parliamentary constituency.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the blast.

Chief Election Commissioner T S Krishnamurthy and Election Commissioners N Gopalaswami and B B Tandon will arrive in Srinagar on Thursday afternoon on a three-day visit.

They will meet officials and representatives of various parties and assess the political situation.
