Each EVM can accommodate 16 candidates. In seats where the number of contestants exceeds 16, two EVMs would be provided to voters. Some EVMs would be kept in the custody of the deputy commissioner of each district to replace faulty machines.

"There would be no problem for those using public transport but private vehicles coming into the state would be thoroughly checked," Kothari told rediff.com.

Over 100,000 persons had been arrested and released on bail after they gave an undertaking that they would not try to disrupt the elections.
