A court in Ropar issued summons on Saturday to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal to appear before it on March 27 in a defamation case for allegedly making derogatory remarks about his Punjab counterpart Amarinder Singh.

The counsel for Dhumal, who was summoned by the court, told Chief Judicial Magistrate Ravinder Singh that the Punjab and Haryana high court had on Friday exempted the chief minister from personal appearance.

The CJM then fixed March 27 as the next date for personal appearance of Dhumal in the court.

The case has been filed by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee member Bal Bhushan Sharma, a resident of Morinda town in Ropar district, who alleged that Dhumal made derogatory comments about Singh, which were carried by a daily published from Jalandhar and Ambala on February seven
