Vettori turns it Delhi's way

April 19, 2009 20:54 IST

Delhi Daredevils scored a comprehensive 10-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab in a rain-curtailed match on Sunday.

Thanks to a splendid start by openers Karan Goel (38) and Ravi Bopara (22), Kings XI Punjab had raced to 67 in just six overs.

Daniel Vettori's first contribution to the match was the catch that got rid of Goel. The bowler who benefited was Yo Mahesh.

And then the New Zealand captain struck with the ball, first trapping Bopara leg before wicket with his very first delivery of the match. His first over cost him just one run.

Vettori accounted for Kumar Sangakkara (8) in his second over and despite Yuvraj hitting him for a six in his third, the New Zealander was instrumental in running the Punjab captain out and then had Mahela Jayawardene (six) caught by Tillakaratne Dilshan at long-off for his third wicket.

Vettori finished with impressive figures of three for 15 from his three overs as Punjab were restricted to 104 for seven in 12 overs.

Vettori's exceptional bowling spell changed the complexion of the game. The New Zealander had laid the foundation for his side's win.

And a revised target, thanks to another rain-delay, made it a mere formality.
