Wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha, who was picked as replacement for the rested Mahendra Singh Dhoni for India's first three One-Day Internationals against Sri Lanka, is confident of recovering from injury in time for the opening match in Cuttack on Sunday.
Playing for East Zone, Saha sustained an injury in the webbing of his hand during last week’s Duleep Trophy match against South Zone.
"I got four days of rest since sustaining that injury. It was a cut and thankfully not a fracture. Today, I batted in the nets against the spinners. I didn't feel any major discomfort while driving and lofting the deliveries. I also did a bit of glove-work, as I took some catches, to get a feel of how it’s shaping up," Saha said on Tuesday.
"Since I have not held the bat for four days after that bruise, there was a minor twitching sensation," he added.
Saha said his recovery is as per schedule and he is confident of being fully fit by Sunday.
"Confidence has never been a problem with me. I am always confident. Till yesterday I didn't know how my hand would respond when I hold the bat. But today I felt better. There are four days to go and I don't see why I won't get fit in time," the 30-year-old Bengal wicketkeeper said.
If Saha fails to recover in time, then Kerala youngster Sanju Samson or Naman Ojha of Madhya Pradesh could be drafted in.
Saha, who made his international debut in 2010, has played two Tests and six ODIs in the last four years. His appearances were restricted due to the presence of regular captain Dhoni, who plays in all three formats.
