A five-over game can start latest by 1815 local time but if it continues to rain or if the outfield is not conducive for cricket at that time, the match will be called off.
Already assured of their places in the Super Eights stage of the tournament, both Sri Lanka and South Africa would be looking to end their group assignments on a high.
In the second match of the day, Australia take on West Indies in Colombo at 1930 local time.
