What went wrong for India at World T20? Discuss!

October 03, 2012 14:59 IST

India failed to live up to its top billing yet again at the World Twenty20, knocked out in the Super Eights stage, on Tuesday.

The 'Men in Blue' won the inaugural World T20 in 2007, but failed to make it to the semi-finals in the last three editions of the tournament.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni's team will consider itself unlucky, having lost out despite beating South Africa by one run, their fourth victory in five matches, the same as Australia and Pakistan in the Super Eights group. The last two mentioned teams, however, progressed because of a better net run-rate.

Looking back, the team has itself to blame for the early exit. There were a number of factors that contributed to India's downfall, including the thrashing received at the hands of Australia, the poor form of the openers throughout the tournament, and some surprising team selections by captain Dhoni.
