Ireland set for cash bonus after shock WC win

Ireland's Cricket World Cup surprise packets are in line for a six-figure bonus after their shock Group B three-wicket victory over England on Wednesday -- but match winner Kevin O'Brien will not earn a special payout.

The team's sponsor, RSA Insurance, revealed that the team triggered a clause in the agreement with Cricket Ireland by surpassing England's 327-8 with the highest successful run chase in the history of the World Cup.

"We had a farewell function before the team left for the World Cup and we announced a special bonus pot of 100,000 euros ($138,000) based on group stage performances and although I cannot go into detail I can say the team is now well placed to attain that money," the sponsors' spokesman Patrick Nally said.

"That payment would be divided equally among the squad. Even though Kevin's innings was something special, we previously agreed with the players that all bonuses would be split among the team equally so there are no plans for individual rewards.

"There is another bonus payment available to the players, though, should they qualify for the quarter-finals."

O'Brien scored the fastest World Cup century ever, in 50 balls, propelling Ireland to victory.
