Stats: Laxman completes 8000 runs in Tests

Statistical highlights from the opening day's play in the second cricket Test between India and the West Indies played in Bridgetown, Barbados.

# Suresh Raina (53 off 105 balls) registered his second fifty against the West Indies -- his fourth in Tests.

# Raina enjoys an impressive record on foreign soil -- 391 in eight innings at an average of 55.85, including one hundred and three fifties as against his average of 20.57 in India.

# VVS Laxman, during the course of his 85 off 146 balls, has completed his 8000 runs in Test cricket. He has become the fourth Indian to register the feat.

# Laxman became the third Indian to record 50 fifties in Tests. Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid have posted 59 half-centuries each.

# Laxman's runs' tally is 8000 runs (avg. 47.05) in 122 Tests, including 16 centuries.

# Sachin Tendulkar (14692), Rahul Dravid (12220), Sunil Gavaskar (10122) and VVS Laxman (8000) are the top Indian run-scorers in Tests.

# Laxman took 201 innings to reach 8000 runs -- the fourth fastest by an Indian batsman, behind Sachin Tendulkar (154), Rahul Dravid (158) and Sunil Gavaskar (166).

# Rahul Dravid is the first player to appear in 200 innings at number three in Test cricket.

# Laxman (85) posted his eighth fifty against West Indies -- his 50th in Tests.

# Laxman's innings is his first fifty at Bridgetown, eclipsing the 43 in 2002.

# Laxman became the 22nd batsman to complete 8000 runs or more in Tests.

# Laxman's record against the West Indies is excellent -- 1271 (ave.50.84) in 18 Tests, including three hundreds.

# Laxman completed his 1000 runs (ave.45.45) in 15 Tests in the Caribbean. His aggregate includes two hundreds and eight fifties.

# Laxman has become the fourth Indian player to amass 1,000 runs or more in the Caribbean, joining Rahul Dravid (1417), Sunil Gavaskar (1404) and Polly Umrigar (1005).

# Laxman and Raina were associated in a 117-run stand for the fifth wicket -- India's highest at Bridgetown, eclipsing the 81 between Mohinder Amarnath and Ravi Shastri in April 1983.

# Shivnarine Chanderpaul equalled the West Indian record for most Test appearances (132), held by Courtney Walsh.

# Murali Vijay recorded a strike rate of 14.66 (11 off 75 balls) -- his worst ever in a Test innings.

# Virat Kohli posted his first duck in Tests.

# Ravi Rampaul (3/38) recorded his best bowling figures against India, eclipsing the 3 for 59 at Kingston in the present series.
