Australian all rounder Shane Watson, who was planning a long and lucrative future with Rajasthan Royals, had no idea that the IPL team was in trouble after its contract was terminated by Board of Control for Cricket in India.
Watson got the shocking news from his former Australian team-mate Adam Gilchrist who informed him during the second Test against India in Bangalore.
"When Rajasthan got booted out it was actually during the game, Adam Gilchrist passed on the information, and I didn't know until then," said Watson.
"Even on the day I read in the paper that it was looking like Rajasthan were going to be in the clear, obviously that wasn't the case," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Watson, as saying.
"It's very sad, because being a part of something, being able to build a brand over the first three years was one of the most special moments of my career. For that to be taken away because of legalities is very sad," he added.
Watson will now be looking for a new IPL team if Rajasthan Royals fails to get itself reinstated through a courts order.
