Virender Sehwag been ruled out of the ICC T20 World Cup.
In-form Tamil Nadu batsman Murali Vijay will replace him in India's squad bound for the West Indies.
Sehwag sustained a shoulder injury during the Indian Premier League and was advised rest for three to four weeks.
"The ICC's Technical Committee has permitted a replacement for him," read a statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India, adding, "the All-India Senior Selection Committee has accordingly picked Murali Vijay."
Gautam Gambhir will now be the vice-captain of the team.
