The outfield had already taken a battering because of the overnight rain and further rain in the morning dismissed any chances of the match resuming today.

The match was suspended on Friday evening due to inclement weather with India, electing to bat, on 11 for no loss.

Rahul Dravid was on nine and Sachin Tendulkar on two.

The game was into the fourth over when bad light forced the players off the field. But minutes later, the heavy dark clouds that were hovering above burst open and left puddles on the ground, mainly along the boundary line.

India and Sri Lanka are playing a three-match series after South Africa, citing security concerns, pulled out of the triangular series that was earlier scheduled and returned home on Thursday.

The other matches will be played on August 20 and 22 at the same venue.
