India won the seven-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in an emphatic fashion winning four matches on a trot and ending with a scoreline of 6-1. A summary of the two teams' performances in the seven matches:

Man of the series - MS Dhoni

India have now equalled South Africa's world record of the biggest victory margin in a bilateral series. South Africa, in fact, have done so not just once but twice. The following table gives details of biggest margins of wins in a seven-match bilateral series where all matches produced results.

Score Winner Loser Venue Season
6-1 SA Eng SA 1995-96
6-1 SA WI SA 1998-99
6-1 Ind SL Ind 2005-06
5-2 SA Ind SA 1992-93
5-2 SA WI WI 2000-01
5-2 NZ Ind NZ 2002-03

Indian wicket-keeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni hit 17 sixes in the series (all of the Sri Lankan batsmen could hit only 11!). With this he established a new world record of most sixes in an ODI series/tournament. The previous record was jointly held by Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya, India's Sourav Ganguly & Pakistan's Shahid Afridi.

6s Batsman For Competition / Series Season Mts Runs

15 Mohammad Yousuf + Pak (v Zim) 2002-03 5 405
15 SC Ganguly Ind World Cup 2002-03 11 465
+ formerly known as Yousuf Youhana

Both Dravid and Dhoni ended the series with an average of 100-plus. This provided only the third and fourth instances of Indian batsmen ending a series or tournament with an average of 100-plus while scoring atleast 300 runs. Dravid's average is now the second best by an Indian. The details:

Ave Batsman Competition / Series Season Mts Runs HS 100s 50s

115.33 MS Dhoni (v SL) 2005-06 7 346 183* 1 1

Dhoni ended the series with 346 runs against his name. His tally is the highest by an Indian wicket-keeper in any series (or tournament). Interestingly the previous record was held by none other than current captain Rahul Dravid, who aggregated 318 runs as a make-shift keeper in 2002-03 World Cup.

...and this is how all players from either side performed with bat and ball in the series:
