Stats: INTERESTING numbers from 1st India v SA T20

Rohit Sharma scored his maiden T20 International century, Kohli became the first Indian to complete 1,000 runs in Twenty20 cricket, but it was South Africa who had the last laugh.

The visitors began their long tour of India on a winning note, scripting a thrilling seven-wicket victory in the first T20 International, in Dharamsala, on Friday.

Number of Indian batsmen to aggregate 1,000 runs in Twenty20 Internationals before Virat Kohli.

 

27 Number of innings taken by Virat Kohli to reach the 1,000 run-mark in Twenty20 Internationals – least among all 20 batsmen. The previous record was of 32 innings, shared by Kevin Pietersen and Alex Hales.

 

1015 Virat Kohli’s run-aggregate in Twenty20 Internationals – highest for any batsman without ever getting out for a duck.

First Twenty20 International hundred on the Indian soil came off Rohit Sharma’s bat. Interestingly he had also scored the first Twenty20 hundred on the Indian soil when he made 101 for Mumbai against Gujarat in 2007.

106 Rohit Sharma’s innings – highest by an Indian in a Twenty20 International, surpassing Suresh Raina’s 101* also against South Africa at Gros Islet in 2010.

 

138 Runs added by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the second wicket – India’s highest partnership for any wicket in Twenty20 Internationals. Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag had put on 136 runs for the first wicket against England at Durban in 2007.

 

9  Number of batsmen who have scored a hundred in each of three formats of international cricket – Tests, One-Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals. Rohit now joins Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum, Suresh Raina, Mahela Jayawardene, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Martin Guptill, Ahmed Shehzad and Faf du Plessis.

7 Number of sixes hit by JP Duminy- most by any batsman hitting no / one boundary in a Twenty20 International. Also the most sixes hit by a batsman against India.

 

67 Runs scored by South Africa in the powerplay – third most by any side against India after Australia’s 74/1 (Rajkot 2013) and Sri Lanka’s 73/1 (Mohali 2009).

 

11 Number of Twenty20 Internationals hosted by India. All eleven have been played at 11 different grounds!

Number of Indian bowlers to concede 40 or more runs in the match. First time this has happened for India.

 

50 Number of Twenty20 Internationals for Mahendra Singh Dhoni as captain- first player to captain his side in 50 matches. He is also the only one to play 200 Twenty20 matches as captain.

 

199 India’s total – their highest against South Africa. Also the highest ever they failed to defend.

 

31 Years 177 days – Sreenath Arvind’s age on debut. Only Rahul Dravid (38 years 232 days) and Sachin Tendulkar (33 years 221 days) made T20I debuts for India at an older age.
