Sri Lanka Cricket on Tuesday congratulated senior player Kumar Sangakkara on being named the International Cricketer of the Year 2012 by the Wisden Almanack.
"Kumar joins a special brand of past greats dating back to 1889, and the award he receives by Wisden is not only a global recognition but a national achievement by a true son of our soil," SLC said.
He has scored 9382 runs in 108 Tests with 28 centuries at an average of 54.86. In the ODIs, he has scored 10472 runs in 325 matches with 13 centuries at an average of 38.21.
Behind the stumps, he has taken 167 catches and made 20 stumpings in Tests. In the ODIs, he has effected 315 catches and 80 stumpings.
