Captain Nathan McSweeney's resolute 74 and Jack Edwards' scintillating 88 fuelled Australia A to 350/9 against India A after the end of the opening day of the second unofficial Test in Lucknow.
India A's left-arm spinner Manav Suthar's five-wicket haul, kept the hosts in the contest.
Suthar returned to wicket-taking ways in the final session with Will Sutherland perishing on 10(27) after a sharp catch at leg slip from Jurel.
Suthar completed his five-wicket haul by nabbing Corey Rocchiccioli on 2(5).
With wickets falling at the other end, Jack Edwards continued to lead the counter-attack and brought up his fifty in quick time with a flurry of boundaries.
Gurnoor Brar ended Edwards' swashbuckling exploits with a quick-fire 88(78) after a leading edge fell in Krishna's hands.
Aus A's last-wicket pair, Henry Thorton and Todd Murphy, put up some resistance to end the day on 350/9.
Earlier, Suthar picked up three wickets to leave Australia A reeling at tea.
Suthar caught and bowled the dangerous Josh Philippe after a quickfire 39 from 33 balls as Australia A slipped to 214/6 in the 59th over.
Captain Nathan McSweeney came to his team's rescue with a composed knock of 74 from 162 balls, with 10 fours, before top edging the pull shot off Gurnoor Brar and was caught at midwicket.
Suthar had earlier dismissed Oliver Peake with the arm ball which sneaked in the gap between bat and pad to bowl him for 29 and then got rid of Cooper Connolly, who was caught behind for a two-ball duck. The left-spinner claimed 3/51 in 18 overs.
Pacers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna also picked up a wicket each.
Siraj dismissed Australia A opener Sam Konstas, caught behind for 49 immediately after lunch.
Electing to bowl, Prasidh Krishna struck the early blow for India A when he had opener Campbell Kellaway caught in the slips for nine. The naturally-aggressive Konstas batted defensively in the morning session against India's Test pacers -- Siraj and Krishna, who bowled a probing spell with the new ball.
Nitish Kumar Reddy, who has recovered from his injury, also bowled a few overs in the morning session.
India A is led by Dhruv Jurel for the second and final match after regular skipper Shreyas Iyer pulled out of the match due to personal reasons.
K L Rahul and Siraj were included in the playing XI as the duo looks for some much-needed match practice ahead of the two-Test series against West Indies next month.
