South Africa's mammoth total of 438 for four against India in the fifth and final One-dayer was the highest innings score in the country, besides being the joint third-highest ever in the world, in Mumbai, On Sunday.

Scorecard

Before Sunday's record total at the Wankhede Stadium, the earlier innings highest on Indian soil was the 418/5 that India had scored against the West Indies in Indore in 2011 with Virender Sehwag hitting a record 219.

Only two other ODI matches in history had seen more runs scored in an innings by a team -- Sri Lanka's 443/9 against The Netherlands in Amstelveen in 2006 and South Africa's 439/2 against West Indies in Johannesburg early this year.

South Africa had also scored 438/9 -- the same total as Sunday's, against Australia in Johannesburg in 2006.

The match also saw three South African batsmen -- Quinton de Kock (109), Faf du Plessis (133) and A B de Villiers (119) -- scoring a century each. This is only the second instance ever of three batsmen hitting a ton in an ODI.

Hashim Amla (153 not out), Rilee Rossouw (128) and de Villiers (149) had hit a century each against West Indies in Johannesburg early this year in their mammoth total of 439/2.
