India captain Virat Kohli struck his 15th Test century while opener Murali Vijay hit form and compiled a ton of his own to help India wrest control on Day 3 of the 4th Test in Mumbai on Saturday.

# Virat Kohli became the third Indian skipper to amass 1000 runs or more in a calendar year -- 1112 runs (ave.79.42) in 11 Tests. He has joined Rahul Dravid -- 1095 runs (ave.60.83) in 12 Tests in 2006 and Sachin Tendulkar – 1000 runs (ave.62.50) in 12 Tests in 1997.
# Kohli, for the first time, managed 1,000 runs or more in a calendar year in Tests -- his previous best aggregate was 847 (ave.44.57) in 10 Tests in 2014. Rahul Dravid was the last Indian batsman to amass 1000 runs in a calendar year -- 1145 runs at an average of 57.25 in 12 Tests in 2011.
# Kohli became the fourth batsman to complete 1,000 runs or more this year, joining Jonny Bairstow (1369), Joe Root (1306) and Alastair Cook (1193).
# Kohli became the 14th Indian batsman to amass 4,000 runs or more in Tests -- his tally being 4106 (ave.50.07) in 52 ests, including 15 hundreds and 14 fifties.
# Kohli averages 50-plus for the first time in Tests and became the first player to achieve the average of 50-plus in all three formats -- Tests, ODIs and T20Is.
# Kohli's tally of eight Test hundreds as an Indian captain is bettered only by Sunil Gavaskar (11) and Mohammad Azharuddin (9).
# Kohli has scored 552 runs in the present series at an average of 138.00 in seven innings -- his second instance of 500 runs or more runs in a Test series – he had scored 692 (ave.86.50) in four Tests vs Australia in 2014-15.
# Kohli is the fifth Indian batsman to amass 500 runs or more in a Test series more than once, joining Sunil Gavaskar (six times), Mohinder Amarnath (twice), Rahul Dravid (twice) and Gundappa Viswanath (twice).
# Kohli's distinction of reaching 15 hundreds in 89 innings is the second quickest by an Indian batsman next only to the 77 taken by Sunil Gavaskar.
# Kohli's tally of 41 hundreds in international cricket is bettered only by two Indian batsmen -- Sachin Tendulkar (100) and Rahul Dravid (48). The leading centurions in international cricket are -- Tendulkar (100), Ricky Ponting (71), Kumar Sangakkara (63) and Jacques Kallis (62).
# Kohli (2008) is the seventh Indian captain to complete 2,000 runs or more in Tests, joining Mahendra Singh Dhoni (3454), Sunil Gavaskar (3449), Mohammad Azharuddin (2856), Sourav Ganguly (2561), Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi (2424) and Sachin Tendulkar (2054)
# Murali Vijay's 136 is his eighth century in Tests – his third vs England.
# Before this hundred vs England in Tests, he had scored 146 at Nottingham in July 2014 and 126 at Rajkot last month against them.
# Totally, seven centuries have been registered by the Indian openers in Tests at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Sunil Gavaskar holds the record with five hundreds at this venue -- two vs Australia & one each vs England, New Zealand and West Indies) and one each by Virender Sehwag (vs West Indies) and Murali Vijay (vs England).
