It was exactly 22 years ago on this day, when India's batting icon Sachin Tendulkar crossed the century-mark for the first time in One-Day Internationals.
It took Tendulkar 78 matches to score his first hundred in ODIs, as he hit a sparkling 110 against Australia during the third match of the Singer World Series to steer India to a 31-run victory, at the R Premadasa stadium in Colombo, on September 9, 1994.
That hundred set the ball rolling for the right-hander in ODIs as he hit a record 49 centuries including a double hundred during his stellar career in the 50-overs format. His finished with a massive tally of 18426 runs in 463 matches, the most runs scored by any batsman in ODIs.
He also hit 96 half-centuries during a long career which finished against Pakistan in Dhaka in 2012, the same opponents against whom he had made his ODI debut way back in 1989.
Tendulkar is the only player to have scored a hundred centuries in international cricket, including 51 centuries in Test cricket.
