Mohit Sharma took five for 47 to help Haryana bundle out Uttar Pradesh for a meagre 227 in their Ranji Trophy Group B match in Lucknow, on Saturday.
At stumps on Day 1, Haryana were 32 for one with Rahul Dewan unbeaten on 13, while Sunny Singh was not out on 10.
After electing to bowl, Haryana bowlers wrecked havoc with the ball, claiming wickets at regular intervals.
Arish Alam top scored with 52, while Suresh Raina (49), Mukul Dagar (38) and Parvinder Singh (32) chipped in with important runs for Uttar Pradesh.
While Mohit finished with a five-wicket haul, Harshal Patel (2/42) claimed two wickets.
In reply to UP's modest first innings total, the visitors lost opener Abhimanyu Khod (8) early, but thereafter Rahul and Sunny played with caution to avoid any further damage.
