Ranji: Mumbai's edge vs Railways; Pant leads Delhi fightback

Mumbai held a slight advantage against Railways at stumps on day two after a gritty 110 from Suryakumar Yadav in the Ranji Trophy Group A match in Mysore on Sunday.

Mumbai, resuming at an overnight 244 for five, went on to score 345 courtesy Yadav, who started the day on 60.

Captain and leggie Karn Sharma led from the front for Railways, adding two wickets to his overnight tally to complete a five-wicket haul.

Railways felt the heat in their first innings. They lost their three top-order batsmen to end the day at 76 for three in 45 overs.

The star of the day was Yadav, who collected 11 fours and a six in his 270-ball effort.

On Saturday, Mumbai opener Akhil Herwadkar had missed out on a century by four runs.

Sizzling ton by Pant after Ishan's 273 in Jharkhand's 493

Dashing wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant (109 batting) smashed his way to an 82-ball-century as Delhi reached 225 for 3 in reply to Jharkhand's first innings total of 493 largely based on a superlative 273 from Ishan Kishan.

The match could be billed as battle between two 'Gen-Next' stars who were captain and vice-captain during the last edition of ICC U-19 World Cup.

Ishan, who was the India U-19 captain started off from his overnight score of 162 not out adding 88 runs with Shahbaz Nadeem (39) for the seventh wicket and 85 runs with Vikash Singh for the ninth wicket in which the latter's contribution was only 2 runs.

Ishan's innings had 21 boundaries and 14 big sixes as Jharkhand innings ended in the 120th over.

For Delhi, it was Pant again, who became the standout performer as he joined his skipper Unmukt Chand (89 batting) with the team in a spot of bother at 74 for 3.

The moment stockily built Pant came at the crease with his skipper getting some form back, he took complete charge, so much so that the 50 came off only 29 balls. In all he hit seven boundaries and eight sixes especially hitting off-spinner Sunny Gupta (0/42 in 8 overs) for sixes.

He also smashed the new ball bowlers Vikash Singh (1/60) and Ashish Singh (1/56) with disdain. He plonked his frontfoot and started hitting horizontal bat shots. 

With Pant, Unmukt added 151 runs for the unbroken fourth wicket stand.

Pant's sizzler ensured that Unmukt, who has not had a great season till date got a chance to play himself in. He faced 151 balls hitting 11 boundaries in the process.

Jharkhand are missing their regular skipper Varun Aaron, who has not played after the first two games.

UP 335 all out, Punjab reach 244-3

Sandeep Sharma returned with a five-wicket haul before Manan Vohra and Jiwanjot Singh hit twin half-centuries as Punjab dismissed Uttar Pradesh for 335 and then reached 244-3 at stumps on the second day of their Ranji Triphy Group A match in Hyderabad.

Sandeep dismissed the late order batsmen -- Kuldeep Yadav (71), Imtiaz Ahmed (0) and Amit Mishra (7) early today to return with figures of 29.5-4-85-5.

In reply, Punjab rode on openers Manan (59) and Jiwanjot (62) set them a platform for a good score at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium and Yuvraj Singh (72) then took Punjab across the 200-mark.

However, Saurabh Kumar dismissed Jiwanjot in the 37th over and then got rid of Vohra in the 41st over. In the 68th over, he removed Uday Kaul (34) as well.

At the draw of stumps, Mandeep Singh (10) and skipper Yuvraj were at the crease with Punjab still trailing by 91 runs in their first innings.

Rajasthan in command against Odisha

S F Khan struck a hundred to guide Rajasthan to 323 before Aniket Choudhary's four-wicket haul put the team firmly in command by reducing Odisha to 143/8 on the second day of their Ranji Trophy Group B cricket match in Patiala.

Resuming at overnight 249/5, Khan's 203-ball 110 was instrumental in steering Rajasthan to the formidable total in 105.4 overs. Khan struck 15 fours in his knock.

For Odisha, Govind Poddar and Suryakant Pradhan picked up three wickets apiece.

In reply, Odisha endured a top-order collapse that left them at 64/5 at one stage. Deepak Behera's unbeaten 49 off 85 balls was the lone noteworthy contribution in Odisha's disastrous scorecard.

Choudhary was the bowler who did the most damage with four wickets from 10 overs, which cost 34 runs. Pankaj Singh also picked up a couple of wickets.

Goa bowl out Chhattisgarh for 198

Goa medium pacer Rituraj Singh bagged 6/60 as Chhattisgarh collapsed from 103 for 2 to 198 all out on the second day of their Ranji Trophy Group C fixture in Cuttack.

In response, Pankaj Rao and Kant Singh shared five wickets between them as Chhattisgarh bounced back to leave Goa on 127 for 6, trailing by 71 runs at close.

Brief Scores: Chhattisgarh 198 all out in 71.3 overs (Amandeep Khare 60, Ashutosh Singh 55; Rituraj Singh 6/60).

Goa: 127 for 6 in 57 overs (Kant Singh 3/27).

Shamsher Yadav completed a superb century to guide Services to a mammoth 400-8 against Andra Pradesh at stumps on the second day of their Ranji Trophy Group C match at Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.

Resuming at an overnight score of 170-3, Services added another 230 runs, riding on a 431-ball 136 by Shamsher and a 151-ball 95-run unbeaten innings by G Rahul Singh. 

Shamsher, who started the day at an overnight score of 60, blasted 15 boundaries and a six in his innings, while Rahul hit 13 fours.

At the draw of stumps, Rahul was at the crease along with DG Pathania (5).

Karnataka in driver's seat vs Vidarbha

Karnataka put itself in a strong position against Vidarbha by bundling them out for a mere 176 and then reaching 108 for three in their second innings at Moti Bagh stadium in Vadodara.

Vidarbha started the day at 10 for no loss but except Jitesh Sharma (61), Ravi Jangid (38) and skipper Faiz Fazal (31) no other batsmen could resist the Karnataka bowlers in the Group B match.

Sreenath Aravind (3/27) and Shreyas Gopal (3/22) scalped three batsmen each while R Vinay Kumar (2/57) accounted for two batsmen.

Mukund strikes another ton to put TN in command

Abhinav Mukund struck his third century of the ongoing Ranji Trophy to put Tamil Nadu in a commanding position against Baroda in Raipur.

After dismissing Baroda for a paltry 93 on Saturday, Tamil Nadu posted 337 thanks to Mukund (100 off 165 balls), Baba Indrajith (68) and Dinesh Karthik (65). Pacer Munaf Patel picked up four wickets for Baroda.

Baroda in their second innings were 44 for no loss at stumps, still trailing Tamil Nadu by 200 runs.

Openers Kedar Devdhar (33*) and Dhiren Mistry (9*) gave them a promising start, batting out 16 overs with little difficulty.

Brief scores: Baroda 93 and 44/0 in 16 overs.
