Baroda left-arm spinner Rajesh Pawar bagged five wickets to restrict holders Uttar Pradesh to 269 in their first innings on the opening day of the Super League Ranji Trophy match in Baroda on Tuesday.

Baroda's bowlers backed their captain Jacob Martin's decision to put Uttar Pradesh in to bat by striking at regular intervals. The visitors had a miserable start, losing four wickets with just 69 runs on the board.

However, promising batsman Tanmay Srivastav (84) and India batsman Suresh Raina (72) revived the Uttar Pradesh innings by putting up a solid fifth wicket partnership of 142 runs.

Srivastav played an impressive innings during which he struck 10 fours and two sixes. Raina hit seven fours and two sixes in his innings.

Test discard seamer Irfan Pathan failed to rediscover his touch. He conceded 108 runs off 22 overs, but helped his team get the first breakthrough by scalping Shiva Kant Shukla (1) early.

Later he added another wicket to his name by dismissing all-rounder Piyush Chawla (11).

At close, Baroda were 24 for no loss.
