Rain washes out first England-Australia ODI

September 06, 2013 19:21 IST

Rain washed out the first of five one-day internationals between England and Australia at Headingley in Leeds on Friday.

With persistent rain flooding the ground and ruining any chance of play, umpires Aleem Dar and Richard Illingworth had little option but to abandon hopes of any play taking place after inspecting the waterlogged outfield for a third time at 1.30 pm (1130 GMT).

Supporters will receive a full refund for a complete wash-out.

The next match is scheduled for Old Trafford in Manchester on Sunday.
