Cheteshwar Pujara opened his account for Yorkshire with a half-century, which enabled the County champions stage a fightback on the second day of their First Division fixture against Nottinghamshire.

The former India middle-order batsman, who was out for a duck in the only innings he played against Worcestershire in the last game, his Championship debut, came up with a good show at Trent Bridge.

His 59 helped Yorkshire finish Day 2 on 226 for three in reply to Nottinghamshire's first-innings total of 428 that featured a double century from England limited-overs’ specialist Alex Hales.

Pujara, who hit nine fours in a nearly three-hour stay at the crease, combined with Alex Lees (100) to put on a solid 116-run stand for the second wicket.

He was out to a brilliant catch by substitute fielder Ben Kitt off the bowling of ex-England left-arm spinner Samit Patel.
