Parthiv to replace injured Saha for Mohali Test

November 23, 2016 09:08 IST

Wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel made a comeback to the Indian Test team after a long gap as he was drafted into the team as a replacement for the injured Wriddhiman Saha for the third Test against England, starting in Mohali, on Saturday.

"BCCI medical team confirms that India wicket keeper Wriddhiman Saha developed a strain in his left thigh during the second match of the five match Paytm Test Series-2016, played against England at Visakhapatnam," BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke said in a media release on Wednesday.

"As a precautionary measure, Saha has been advised rest and will not play in the next Test match of the series," he added.

Parthiv made his debut as the youngest wicketkeeper in Test cricket as a 17-year-old back in 2002 in a Test match against England in Nottingham.

The 31-year-old, who has played Tests 20 so far, last represented India in the longer format eight years ago -- in a Test match in 2008, against Sri Lanka in Colombo. He has also featured in 38 ODIs and two T20 Internationals.
