Intikhab in doping inquiry panel

Former Governor of Punjab Shahid Hamid and ex-cricketer Intikhab Alam have been named in the Pakistan Cricket Board's high-level committee to probe the dope scandal involving pace duo Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif.

Hamid will head the inquiry committee, other members for which would be announced later, 'The Nation' reported.

"He (Alam) has been appointed as an expert member of the committee," a PCB official was quoted as saying by the paper.

Intikhab, who also coached the national team in the past, is likely to look after the cricketers' interests besides guiding the committee to professional affairs of the players and their needs regarding use of various drugs.

Akhtar and Asif tested positive for a banned steroid nandrolone in a dope tests conducted by the PCB before the ongoing Champions Trophy in India and have been withdrawn from the tournament.
