Yorkshire pacer Bresnan in England Test squad

April 29, 2009 16:40 IST

Yorkshire pace bowler Tim Bresnan was a surprise inclusion in the England squad announced on Wednesday for the first Test against West Indies starting at Lord's in a week's time.

Essex all-rounder Ravi Bopara was also named in the 12-man squad and is likely to bat at number three after the selectors omitted former captain Michael Vaughan, Ian Bell and Owais Shah.

Durham pace bowler Graham Onions has been included ahead of his county team mate Steve Harmison. All-rounder Andrew Flintoff was unavailable after undergoing keyhole surgery on an injured knee.

Off-spinner Graeme Swann and left-armer Monty Panesar have both been named in the squad although only one is likely to play at Lord's.

Squad: Andrew Strauss (captain), James Anderson, Ravi Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Stuart Broad, Paul Collingwood, Alastair Cook, Graham Onions, Monty Panesar, Kevin Pietersen, Matt Prior, Graeme Swann.
