Australia and Pakistan will experience contrasting emotions as the second Test at Headingley unfolds when they remember their meeting in Sydney this year.
Pakistan skittled Australia for 88 but their opponents fought back to trail by only 34 runs on day two, reviving memories of the recent Test in which the Australians pulled off an unlikely victory after trailing by 206 runs on first innings.
The Australians, seeking an eighth consecutive Test victory, will take inspiration from the memories while Pakistan will try to banish them as they seek a first Test win over their opponents for 15 years.
"There's no doubt there was a change in body language as Thursday progressed and we have seen it before and it might bring back some memories for Pakistan of that Test in Sydney," Australia's Shane Watson told reporters.
"They know all about our fighting spirit as a team and how we were able to turn around that test match in Sydney so that will really start to creep into their minds over the next day or two," he added.
Pakistan failed to chase a target of 176 to win the match in Sydney.
"We had this kind of Test match in Sydney so we don't want to get back into that situation," coach Waqar Younis said.
"We don't want to lose. But I won't be saying these things in the dressing room," he added with a smile.
Watson said Australia were back in the match."We know there is still a lot of hard work left for us in this match," Watson said.
"But hopefully we can continue to do that over the next few days and win like we did in Sydney," he added.Australia set Pakistan record victory target
