Salman Butt's wife, Gul on Tuesday gave birth to baby boy in Lahore, on a day when the former Pakistan skipper was found guilty of spot-fixing by a London court.

Butt's father, Zulfiqar Butt confirmed that his daughter-in-law had given birth to a second son.

"It is a mixed day for us. We are sad and shocked (at the verdict handed out to Butt), but we are also happy at the birth of the son," Zulfiqar said.

Butt and pacer Mohammad Asif were found guilty in the spot-fixing scam by a jury at the Southwark Crown Court in London.

The 12-man jury found Butt, 27, guilty of conspiracy to accept corrupt payments and conspiracy to cheat, while Asif, 28, was convicted of the charge of conspiracy to cheat in one of the biggest scandals that rocked cricket last year.

However, Butt's father insisted that his son had no role to play in the scandal.

"My son is innocent of these charges and we will fight to the end," Zulfiqar said.

Butt is in London for the trial since last month but family sources said he had been constantly in touch with his wife.

"It is a tragedy that he (Butt) became father of a second son today and he is now facing sentence," Zulfiqar added.

Butt faces up to seven years in prison for his role in the scandal which broke out after a sting by the now-defunct tabloid News of the World revealed that the duo had conspired with alleged bookie Mazhar Majeed to send down deliberate no balls during the Lord's Test against England.
