VVS Laxman played second fiddle to Andrew Flintoff as Lancashire thumped Derbyshire by 56 runs in the Twenty20 Cup in London.
Flintoff hammered 93 from 41 balls to hog the limelight but Laxman's 45-ball 63 was no less significant as the duo shared a fourth-wicket stand of 99 to help Lancashire pile up 220 for five, their best ever Twenty20 score.
Chasing the mammoth total, Derbyshire could score only 164 for seven in their allotted 20 overs despite half-centuries from Greg Smith (56) and Chris Rogers (52).
Flintoff struck nine fours and six sixes in his swashbuckling knock.
Laxman came out to open with Paul Horton and was the last man out after his half-century, which was studded with seven fours and a six.
Incidentally, Laxman is not considered cut out for the Twenty20 format. The stylish Hyderabadi was replaced by Adam Gilchrist as captain of Deccan Chargers, which went on to win the second Indian Premier League in South Africa.
With this victory, Lancashire secured a place in Division One of the new P20 with three games to go.
