Lalit Modi's legal counsel Mehmood Abdi on Sunday said they were concerned about the security threat to the suspended IPL Chairman and hoped the government would deal with the issue appropriately.
Abdi had represented Modi at the BCCI disciplinary committee meeting in Mumbai and reasoned that his client gave a miss to the hearing due to the underworld threat.
Modi, who is facing charges of financial irregularities, is on Europe, Abdi said.
He however did not divulge specifics about the security threat to Modi.
"Yes, we are concerned about the security threats to Mr Lalit Modi and the government is also aware about it. I'm sure the government and the concerned security agency will take appropriate steps in the regard," Abdi said.
Mumbai police has reportedly confirmed that Modi is facing security threat with the underworld allegedly conspiring to eliminate him.
