The International Cricket Council on Thursday confirmed that stumper-batsman Dinesh Karthik will be Virender Sehwag's replacement in India's Twenty20 World Cup squad.
The ICC Event Technical Committee also approved Aaron Redmond as replacement player for Jesse Ryder in New Zealand's squad.
Sehwag was forced to be dropped from the squad after failing to recover from a shoulder injury he sustained during the Indian Premier League.
Meanwhile, Redmond came into the New Zealand squad due to the fact that Ryder is suffering from an abdominal illness and is unable to take further part in the event.
"The committee reviewed the medical reports and was satisfied the reasons for the replacements were both genuine and as such has granted the BCCI and NZC (New Zealand Cricket) the right to replace the players on medical grounds," the ICC said.
The Event Technical Committee of the Twenty20 World Cup comprises ICC General Manager David Richardson, Tournament Director Steve Elworthy, ICC member Campbell Jamieson, England and Wales Cricket Board representative Alan Fordham and former players Ian Bishop and David Lloyd, both of whom are independent nomination.
