Legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev said he learnt a lot during the "dark period" when match-fixing charges were levelled against him by former teammate Manoj Prabhakar.

"I have learnt a lot during those dark periods. Probably I learnt more lessons during those periods then during the 20 years of my playing career," Kapil told reporters at the release of his autobiography "Straight from the Heart."

The book, published by MacMillan India Limited, was released at New Delhi by the cricketer's mother.

Kapil said he had tried to bring to light several things through the book which might not have been possible during his playing days.

"The book contains both the positive and negative aspect of my life. I have tried to make it balanced. During my playing days had I said anything about the administration they might have hit back. I have tried to convey lot of things which would have been difficult to write during my playing days," said the former captain adding the money collected from the sell of the book would go to charities.

Kapil said despite the allegations, he had no complaints against anyone. "I am a positive person and I love to learn new things and love growing."
