April 04, 2006 13:38 IST

Sri Lanka opener Sanath Jayasuriya, playing in his last Test match, was on Tuesday taken to hospital with a thumb injury.

The 36-year-old injured his thumb while catching opener Imran Farhat in the gully on the second morning of the second tesT against Pakistan.

Jayasuriya split the webbing between his thumb and right index finger and may have also dislocated the thumb.

"Sanath left for hospital immediately with what is a bad cut and a possible dislocation," team manager Michael Tissera told reporters.

Jayasuriya scored just 14 in the first innings as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 279.
