CSA chief says Majola lied about IPL bonuses

The two top officials of Cricket South Africa were locked in a bitter bickering battle, with president Mtutuzeli Nyoka on Thursday accusing CEO Gerald Majola of lying about bonuses paid by the Indian Premier League to CSA staff.

Nyoka's comments were posted by Talk Radio 702 breakfast host John Robbie on his Twitter page after interviewing the CSA president.

"Dr Nyoka says he was lied to over the payment of IPL bonuses to Cricket SA officials. Was told none were paid."

"Dr Nyoka says Cricket SA will never be able to bury the truth," another tweet by Robbie on the social networking site said.

Although Majola has refused to speak to media, CSA Brand and Corporate Relations manager Kass Naidoo said on the same radio station that Majola would take legal advice on the issue and the CSA Board would also consider the Nyoka comments.

Nyoka was on Thursday speaking in the wake of a resignation call by the heads of all provincial cricket unions from his position because of his relationship with Majola.

Nyoka denied in the interview that he had been fired or that he had resigned, but confirmed that he received a letter summoning him to a meeting to discuss his position.

A unanimous motion of no confidence has reportedly been submitted by the provincial cricket body heads.

Nyoka and Majola had clashed last year and an investigation was launched after allegations that Majola and other CSA staff had not declared bonuses paid to them by the IPL, which hosted the tournament in South Africa in 2009.

Majola was cleared of any wrong-doing in an internal investigation but rapped over the knuckles for the process followed in reporting bonuses.

Also in the interview, Nyoka apologised to Gauteng Cricket Board (GCB) chairperson Barry Skjoldhammer over the way he treated Gauteng Cricket and the Wanderers.

In 2009, Nyoka said no international cricket matches would be played at the Wanderers until the GCB had apologized for allegations made against Majola that he mismanaged the IPL event.

Skjoldhammer was eventually forced to leave after refusing to apologise.

Robbie said Nyoka made an "unconditional apology over the issue".
