IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla condoles Salve's death

Indian Premier League chairman Rajeev Shukla condoled the death of former BCCI chief NKP Salve, saying he would always be remembered for his huge contribution to Indian cricket.

"Mr. Salve's contribution to Indian cricket is immense. During his tenure as BCCI President we won the World Cup for the first time in 1983. He was also instrumental in bringing the 1987 World Cup to the sub-continent (India and Pakistan which co-hosted the tournament," said Shukla, who is also the vice-president of BCCI.

"On behalf of the IPL Governing Council, I would like to extend my condolences to his family."

Salve, a former Union Minister, passed away early this morning at a private hospital in New Delhi due to age-related problems. He was 90.

He is survived by son Harish Salve, an eminent advocate, and daughter Arundhati. His wife had predeceased him some time back.

Salve had also been a minister at the Centre in charge of steel and some other ministries.
