injury sustained during the ICC World Cup last month.
"The IPL Technical Committee has approved a replacement for Mohammed Shami in the Delhi Daredevils team. Shami has been ruled out of the ongoing Pepsi IPL season due to a knee injury," read a statement from the organisers.
"The Delhi Daredevils therefore have the option of picking a replacement player," the media release further stated.
The Technical Committee of the IPL consists of Anurag Thakur (Hony. Secretary, BCCI), Sourav Dasgupta, Subir Ganguly, Sourav Ganguly and Ravi Shastri.
Shami, who had 18 wickets in the World Cup, missed a match at the mega event against UAE as the knee needed rest. He was being sparingly used at the net session by the Indian team management as they wanted him to bowl full tilt in match situations.
He survived the World Cup on "prayer and medication" as a member of the Indian contingent present in Australia had said. However, there may be a necessity of surgery and an intense rehabilitation programme after that.
There is very little possibility of Shami returning for India's next away assignment in Bangladesh but he will certainly be training his eyes on India's full tour of Sri Lanka scheduled in July-August.
