Purnendu Maji and Srinivas Bhogle present the?most valuable and?paisa vasool players of IPL5.

Chris Gayle (MVPI of 619) is currently IPL5's most valuable player (MVP), but things could change very soon.

Tomorrow the MVP could be Gautam Gambhir (615) or Virender Sehwag (608) again, or even Shikhar Dhawan (597) or Ajinkya Rahane (581). The contest is really that close!

IPL's most paisa vasool players continue to be Mandeep Singh (PVI of 48) and Rahane (66). The paisa vasool index (PVI) is calculated by dividing a player's cost by his MVPI. Of course we are talking of what franchise owners agreed to pay in the open auction …

not what the player might have been paid behind closed doors!

We have also included the number of sixes this time. Notice that Gayle has hit 44 sixes, while the next best, Cameron White, has hit just 20.

Generally speaking, an auctioned player offers 'outstanding' value if his paisa vasool index (PVI) is below 500 (*****); 'excellent' value if the PVI lies between 500-1000 (****), 'very good' value for a PVI between 1000-1500 (***) and 'good' value for a PVI between 1500-2000 (**).
