Veteran India seamer Ashish Nehra will soon undergo a surgery to treat a 'high-grade tendon injury' he had suffered on his right knee during an Indian Premier League match earlier this month.

Spearheading the Sunrisers Hyderabad attack, the 37-year-old Nehra sustained a hamstring tendon injury during their IPL match against Kings XI Punjab on May 15, ruling him out of the rest of the tournament.

"BCCI medical team confirms that India medium pacer, Ashish Nehra, injured his right knee during the Indian Premier League 2016. Assessment and investigation by BCCI medical staff revealed Nehra sustained a high-grade tendon injury and was recommended to consult Dr. Andrew Williams, orthopedic specialist in London. Post consultation, Dr. Williams has advised surgery on his right knee, which will take place shortly," Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Ajay Shirke said in a statement, on Tuesday.

On his comeback trail for India, the fast medium bowler emerged as one of Sunrisers Hyderabad's key players this season, with nine wickets from eight matches at an average of 22.11 and an economy rate of 7.65.

The injury is the second time he has broken down this season. Nehra had missed four matches with a groin strain that he picked up in early April.
