The International Cricket Council has clarified that it has no immediate plans to introduce white lines on pitches to assist umpires in making accurate leg before wicket decisions in international matches.

The proposal to introduce the markings as an aid for umpires was raised by ICC General Manager, Cricket, Dave Richardson during an open forum last week.

Richardson, a former South African wicketkeeper, however, clarified on Monday that before being considered for use in international cricket, the lines will be subject to an extensive trial in practice conditions and then domestic cricket.

"The announcement last week was that this aid would be trialled in practice and domestic cricket," he said.

"It is premature to speculate as to whether it will be introduced in international cricket until the results of the trial are properly assessed."

A report of the findings of the trials will be submitted to the Cricket Committee - Playing -- the ICC body responsible for on-field related matters -- for a recommendation on its adoption, he said.
