Tendulkar, Big B lead Twitteratti in congratulating Team India

Former cricketers, including Sachin Tendulkar, among other eminent personalities, lavished praise on the Indian cricket team after the defending champions beat arch-rivals Pakistan by 76 runs in their World Cup opener in Adelaide.

The Men in Blue maintained their unbeaten record against Pakistan in the World Cup by registering their sixth win on Sunday and batting great Tendulkar termed the win as "convincing".

"What a convincing victory by Team India. Way to go..." Tendulkar wrote on his Twitter handle following the 76-run win at the Adelaide Oval.

Tendulkar also shared a picture of a group of people, who had gathered around his residence to celebrate.

"Don't know what I did ... some fans are outside my house ... Celebrating ... Wish I could have joined them!," he wrote.

The retired VVS Laxman said it was a "clinical" effort by the Indian team.

"Congrats Team India. Clinical performance. Good to see the way the bowlers bowled today. Lots of positives," Laxman wrote.

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan wrote: “YEEEAAAAHHHHH ! India wins .. my second prediction came true too .. is it got something to do with the date 15th Feb !!!

"15th Feb .. !! historic date for me .. on this date 46 years ago in 1969, I signed my 1st film to join the Film Industry. Well played INDIA .. entire team showed resolve, talent and determination ..!! May you continue such onwards .. JAI HIND,” he tweeted.

The defending champions launched their campaign in grand style as they produced an all-round performance to spank Pakistan, thus extending their unbeaten record against the arch-rivals to 6-0 in the mega event.

Former Australia pacer Damien Fleming also lauded the team.

"Kohli 107 MOM Pakistan struggled with bat Misbah the best. Runs will be a worry for them," Fleming said.

Shuttler Jwala Gutta and tennis player Rohan Bopanna too congratulated the team.

Gutta wrote, "Congratulations Indian Cricket Team . Fantastic start :).

"Congratulations India. Great victory and a great set ;), 6-0," Bopanna tweeted alongwith a picture.

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla praised centurion Kohli and Suresh Raina, who scored a half-century.

"Congrats team india superb performance by Virat, raina, Shikhar & Shami," he wrote in the social networking site.

Former Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq wrote, "Was a great game to watch. Unlucky Pakistan on the result lets keep working hard. Congratulations to India on the Win."

South Africa cricketer Johan Botha said, "Wow, Adelaide Oval turned it on again tonight!! This is just an amazing sporting venue!! Good start by India."

Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody also congratulated India, saying: "Inevitable but important win for India after a couple of hard months down under, confidence & momentum key to any #WorldCup campaign!"
