Wicketkeeper Jos Buttler became the seventh cricketer to effect six dismissals in an ODI and the third from England to achieve the feat, during their ICC Champions Trophy semi-final against South Africa in London.
All his dismissals came in the form of catches at the Kennington Oval.
Gilchrist had achieved the feat a staggering six times during his illustrious career.
Born in Taunton, Somerset, Buttler made his ODI debut against Pakistan in February 2012.
He turned out for Sussex in the last English county season.
