Bravo blasts batsmen for loss against India

Livid with his batsmen, West Indies skipper Dwayne Bravo said their poor shot-selection was to blame for their eight-wicket loss to India in a Champions Trophy Group B match in London on Tuesday.

"Our batsmen have to take the blame for this. Another 25 runs could have made a difference if the tail batted smarter. Most of us played bad shots at the wrong time and I am part of that too," Bravo said.

"We keep losing games in the middle. We need to address this issue and recover as a batting group before our next match," the West Indian skipper added.

West Indies play South Africa in the third and final match in Cardiff on June 14. The winner will qualify as the second team from Group B.

"Our destiny is in our own hands. It's going to be a final for us and it's possible and I know we have the team to make the second round," Bravo said.

Bravo praised Darren Sammy for his unbeaten 56 off 35 balls.

Ignored for the first match against Pakistan, Sammy, who is West Indies Test captain, probably made the cut because vice-captain and wicket-keeper Denesh Ramdin was suspended for two matches by the ICC on disciplinary grounds.

"It's not that he was trying to prove anything. He played his  natural game and I am very happy for him," Bravo said.

The Caribbean skipper blasted his cousin Darren, who scored 35 off 83 balls.

"It was one of the worst knocks he played and he has been spoken to. But with wickets falling around him, you can't blame him," Bravo said.

The West Indies skipper is looking for an improved batting display from the middle-order in the "biggest" game against South Africa on Friday.
