Follow, discuss the first India-South Africa ODI

February 21, 2010 14:04 IST

After the thrilling drawn Test series, India and South Africa battle it out in a different format when they face-off in the three-match One-day International series, starting in Jaipur today.

If the recently-concluded two-Test series was a battle for the top Test ranking, the One-Dayers will see the teams fight for the number two spot. India, with 121 points, are just ahead of the Proteas (119) in second place but way behind Australia, who have 132 points.

Thus, with the hosts looking to consolidate their position, the upcoming three OIDs hold the promise of rich fare.

Team India is faced with injury woes, with key players like Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh and Zaheer Khan unavailable for the series because of injuries, while Harbhajan Singh will miss the first two games because of his sister's marriage.

For South Africa, captain Graeme Smith is only the big absentee, being forced to return home because of the finger injury he sustained during the Test series.

India Abroad's Harish Kotian is at the Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur posting updates on the first ODI as they happen. Follow the latest on the match on Harish's MyPage!.
