July 19, 2010 18:38 IST

England bowler Graeme Swann has been charged with drink-driving, police said on Monday.

The spinner, third in the International Cricket Council's world bowling rankings, was arrested after being stopped by officers in Nottingham, central England, in April.

"Graeme Swann, 31, was charged on June 8 with driving a motor vehicle when the alcohol level was above the limit," a Nottinghamshire police spokeswoman said.

He is due to appear before Nottingham magistrates on Aug. 16.
