Goodwin reported for Zimbabwe selection comments

October 13, 2003 20:32 IST

Former Zimbabwe batsman Murray Goodwin has been reported for making detrimental comments about his country's selection policy, the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) said on Monday.

Goodwin, who has played for Western Australia since quitting international cricket in 2000, said last week he thought Zimbabwe's black players were getting an easy ride into the Test side without having to perform as well as their white rivals.

"Goodwin has been reported for an alleged breach of the Cricket Australia Code of Behaviour rule prohibiting detrimental public comment following comment attributed to him about selection criteria for the Zimbabwe cricket team," the WACA said in a statement.

"Details are being finalised but the report will be heard as soon as possible."

Players can be fined, reprimanded or suspended for breaching the public comment rule.

The 30-year-old Goodwin made 19 Test appearances for Zimbabwe before quitting over a pay dispute in 2000.
