The national selectors decided to stick with the same squad despite Gambhir's absence making it a 14-member squad, which would mean Murali Vijay will get a chance to play his second Test match.
Vijay, 25, had made his Test debut against Australia last year and even at that time replaced Gambhir, when the left-hander was banned for a match.
The third Test will be played at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, from December 2-6. This is the first time in 36 years that the venue will host a Test match. The last Test played at Brabourne was the India-England Test in 1972-73 after which matches were allotted to the Wankhede stadium.
The Squad:
Mahendra Singh Dhoni (captain), Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, M Vijay, S Badrinath, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, Sreesanth, Pragyan Ojha, Amit Mishra.
