Police have initiated an enquiry into an alleged forgery case against Indian Premier League commissioner and Board of Control for Cricket in India vice-president Lalit Modi and two others in Nagaur city, Rajasthan.
According to Nagaur Police Station House Officer (SHO) Sunil Prasad Sharma, one Rupa Raj Jat filed a complaint against Modi, who is also Rajasthan Cricket Association president, Nagaur Cricket Association secretary Rajender Singh Natu and the-then sub-registrar.
The complainant claimed that to become RCA president Modi purchased a piece of land in September 2004 to prove his residency in the city, but the land registry carried fake signatures of Modi as he was not present in the city when the registration was done.
Modi is believed to have purchased the land with the help of Natu and prepared fake documents for the purpose.
Sharma said police registered a case under IPC sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120 B and initiated an enquiry into the allegations.
Former BCCI treasurer Kishore Rungta had on Tuesday claimed that Modi misused RCA funds.
